LINES TO TIME
Andras Mohacsi

The tallit or talis is a Jewish prayer shawl. András Mohácsi's paintings evoke the striped motifs of these, the titles of which refer to the text of a psalm. From 2020, András Mohácsi will continue to paint a series of paintings based on 150 psalms. The exhibition presents the highlights of the Tallit series.

The paintings are composed of a joint interpretation of several cultural elements, and their titles hint at the artist's narrative intentions. The subdued, cool colours evoke the undulating breath of an introverted being, looking inward, searching for its full destiny. The works show a further extension of the renewed tradition of American Abstract Expressionism. The narrative content in the titles of the paintings is overwritten by a strong mood radiance.

The exhibition falls within the timeframe of the major Jewish holidays of autumn: the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah and the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, a holiday calling for repentance.
